What is the MOMS Club?
The MOMS Club (Moms Offering Moms Support) is an international non-profit organization which provides support for mothers who have chosen to stay at home to raise their children. The MOMS club was originally founded in 1985 and now has over 1200 chapters internationally. The MOMS Club of Perkasie covers the Pennridge School District of Perkasie & Sellersville.
We offer many ways for you to make friends and find support for both yourself and your children at our monthly meetings, playgroups, babysitting co-ops, MOMS Night Out, weekly activities, special activity groups and service projects.
What are the Monthly Meetings? And, when are they held?
These are our source of communication and meeting new people. We start with sign-in; then the President discusses important topics and opens the floor to other discussions. Then, if scheduled, our speaker or party will begin. The meetings are very informal and sometimes a little bit chaotic. Children play about the room and sometimes work on crafts. We try to have 5 to 6 speakers yearly. Our speakers discuss topics varying from Environmental Safety to Discipline Techniques. Some meetings have theme parties, such as Beach Parties and Holiday Parties.
Meetings for our group are held on the 3rd Wednesday of every month (call Jenn at
215-258-7607 for holiday schedules) at Calvary Church in Souderton. Meetings begin at 10 am and end around 11:30 am.
What types of activities does the Club offer?
In addition to the Monthly Meeting, we provide a variety of activities for mothers and their children. (Children are invited to all activities with the exception of MOMS Night Out.) Here’s an overview of some of those activities our club may offer. Remember that the club is always open to new ideas too!
Playgroups: These groups meet a couple of times a month. Playgroups are based on the children’s ages.
Book Club: Gather monthly to discuss different books. It is a very informal review over tea while the kids play.
Cooking Club: This is a monthly get together where everyone brings a covered dish to someone’s home. There can even be a theme to the dishes, for example: Italian, Seafood, and Pizza so on.
Recipe Exchange: A group that gathers simply to exchange recipes. You need not bring food to this event. Small snacks are served. You may take home a recipe that you can use for that night’s dinner.
MOMS Night Out is scheduled once a month for just us moms. We pick different spots to meet, perhaps for dinner or a movie. It’s a chance for us to get out and mingle without our children.
Kids Craft Club: Bring your kids to this monthly event to learn some new arts and crafts, based on the theme of the month – be it a holiday or the season.
Scrapbook Club: Do you have a shoebox full of family photos that you have been wanting to put in albums? Here’s an opportunity do just that. The women meet monthly.
Helping Hands: During times of need, all the MOMS Club moms lend a helping hand. Whether a member has the birth of a new baby or an illness, our club members are always willing to help.
Welcome Committee: Their purpose is to greet visitors as well as new and seasoned member. They also assign “Big Sisters” to new members. (Explanation of Big Sister is listed under “What Happens after I Join”).
Monthly Activities: In addition to the above functions, we also schedule varied outings during the month, which are announced in our monthly newsletter. There are events such as lunch at a local park, museums trips, playtime at McDonald’s, trips to the local malls, etc. See samples of our newsletter’s calendar of events.
Can I bring my children?
Yes, your children go with you to all our events with the exception of MOMS Night Out. Our club is to help “stay-at-home” moms to get out of the house with their children. It provides both the moms and their children with the opportunity to meet and interact with other people/ children their age.
How may I join?
Simply submit MOMS Club application (Membership and Liability Release) and annual $20 dues to the contact listed on the application. Either send it to her home (the address on the application) or take it to our monthly meetings to join. Checks should be made payable to: MOMS Club of Perkasie.
What happens after I join?
1) Upon joining you will have a newsletter sent to you. At the next monthly meeting you will receive your Welcome Folder, which contains other important information.
Newsletters: Our source of communication (other than our monthly meetings) is our newsletter. Newsletters are distributed at our monthly meetings and provide important information to our members including service project info and monthly activities.
2) A” Big Sister” is assigned to you. We match you up with a MOMS Club member who will call you to invite you to an activity from the MOMS Events Calendar in the newsletter. This is done so you don’t find yourself alone at an activity. Your big sister will meet you there and introduce you to other moms from the club.
3) Attend monthly meetings, scheduled activities, and meet some wonderful people! All at your own pace. Some people end up doing a lot; others we see every now and then. After a while if you would like to volunteer for a committee or to help out somehow, it would greatly be appreciated. After all if it weren’t for all our volunteers, there wouldn’t even be a MOMS Club.
How is the club organized?
The club is run by volunteers who make up the Executive Board and Committees that oversee the successful workings of the Club. The Executive Board Members include the President, Vice President of Administration, Vice President of Membership, Treasurer and Secretary. There are several committees in the Club. They provide the MOMS Club with information on these “sub-clubs or groups” by means of our newsletter. The list of groups these Committee Heads take care of are listed under Activities. Please let the Board know if you are interesting in volunteering for a position.
